The most fun, delightful and entertaining iPhone games of the year 2011 which provided hours upon hours of enjoyment to the iphone community
This is a puzzle game of a physical nature, in which you use small Goo to create firm and increasingly impressive structures. The game was previously released on PC and Mac platforms, but made its way to the iPhone this past year. The controls are perfectly implemented and the gameplay is incredibly involving, so much so that you are invested in the survival of the cute little Goo balls. Puzzles are thoughtfully designed and the narrative slowly begins to delight the player as the game progresses. You are looking at about 7 to 9 hours of game time to polish off the nearly 50 levels, an extremely excellent deal at $2.99.
Om Nom makes a return to the iOS in almost the same way that Angry Birds seasons did however this time around you are introduced to a new character the professor who does experiments on Om Nom hence the name cut the rope experiments. Although Om Nom is not dissected there is still a whole lot of cutting the rope in order to feed Om Nom while trying to get as many gold stars as possible along the way while tacking the physics based gameplay. This may be a bit overwhelming for new comers at first if they aren’t familiar with the mechanics of the game. The game also introduces new elements like the suction cups and the rope gun however this time around the game is more about well-paced cuts and pops than the previous installment and puzzles need to be solved quickly as the stars move around and disappear with time. Visually the game still remains true to its charm where Om Nom reacts to the candy and motivational words are provided by the professor at the start and end of each level. The game may seem like more of an update to the original but is definitely worth picking up regardless if you’ve played the previous title.
At its core bumpy road is an endless platformer where you play as a couple going on a drive the game is a unique experience as you are treated to beautiful backgrounds and amazing music but what’s even more unique is that you don’t control the car but the world itself where touching the screen pushes up the blocks along with the passengers as though they were riding a wave and the car whereas tapping the screen makes the car jump. This takes some time to master as you jump rivers and try to collect various things along the way for fuel as well as photos which unlock a heartwarming story in slideshow format. The game is a delightful experience and the sounds of the game contribute to its casual nature and carefree feel. There are 2 modes in the game one is a survival game type where you need to collect fuel and avoid hazards, the other is a time trial type mode where the goal is to collect gizmos to go as fast as you can and make it to the goal in the least time possible. Although the content is a little less for the price being offered, it is made up with the originality of the game.
Tiny wings is a game about a flightless bird that dreams of flying but is unable to, conveniently the bird is lives on top of a smooth rolling hill with ramps to slide off . The game is minimalistic and touching the screen lets the bird fold its wings and fall as a projectile to the hills which allows it to gain momentum and fly even further if done properly. There are bright and colorful landscapes that change daily and are complimented by soothing background music that provide an overall polished feel to the game. The goal of the game is to see how far you can fly before the sun goes down along the way there are coins and speed boosters to collect and to counter repetitiveness the game gives you a certain list of challenges which upon completion add a permanent multiplier to your points and gives the bird a better nest to sit on. The game is a very fun and addicting experience overall and should not be missed by anyone.
With the release of the critically acclaimed horror sci fi shooter dead space 2 came its mobile counterpart this past year although not on par with console game this was a mobile experience definitely worth checking out. The game takes place between dead space 1 and dead space 2 with you still fighting creepy monsters while holding on to your sanity, the pacing of the game is great as there are little to no load times in the game which keep the horrific pace of the game going and the transactional sections often put you against minor swarms of monsters. On top of being a visual treat for latest gen ios mobile devices the game provides a chilling experience that is rarely seen on mobile devices and can even scare the faint of heart in a dark room; this is also complimented by the excellent sound design of the game that helps build up a great ambience for the game. Controlling the game takes some practice and the camera can be a bit frustrating at times but it mostly handles well and works great overall. The game seems a little short but that may be because it is so engaging however you get access to a hard mode after completing the game which allows you to start the game with your already purchased upgrades.
Halfbrick Studios the guys behind the acclaimed Age of Zombies and the Famous Fruit Ninja have brought us a Gatling gun Jetpack game, it is like the updated version of ‘Helicopter’ where touching the screen makes you fly whereas doing nothing makes you run on the ground. You have to use the Jetpack to avoid lasers, missiles and zappers while collecting coins the goal is to get as far as possible while the game gets faster and more hectic as it proceeds. Along the way there are an array of upgrades that include special vehicles such as the gravity manipulating suit, a transporter suit and more which although control differently but act as the same way the Jetpack does more or less and act as a one hit shield after their destruction your back to the jetpack. There are spin tokens as well which you can use after your death in a slot machine, the rewards range from being blasted further along the track, being brought back to life, or just coins and other beneficial items. You are given 3 tasks at a single time and they are replaced as they are completed which level you up and the coins collected can be used to buy new the jetpack, new costumes, boots, extra life or can even pay for the completion of difficult missions. The game is presented in a cartoonish art style and effects in the game look absolutely brilliant. The games animation style is complimented by the humorous tone of the game and the soundtrack is also fantastic. This past year infinity blade set the bar for mobile gaming with stunning visuals and a solid story however lacked in a few areas, well it got a sequel and it’s safe to say that it is everything the first one hoped to be and more. Siris, the protagonist, is joined by a colorful cast of characters, with brilliant voice acting and the story makes more sense than the original picking up where the last one left off and the game does a great job of setting up the characters current situation even if you haven’t played the original. Much like the original the combat is broken up into duels where the player must dodge, block or parry incoming attacks while waiting for the key moment to strike. To avoid repetitiveness the game allows you to use different combos, super strikes and magic spells. Players are also encouraged to collect items in order to customize the weaponry, by fusing them with gems which can help in boosting elemental attacks or stats boosts, as the fighting styles have expanded with the inclusion of dual wielding weapons and a two handed style, each that plays differently for example two handed users can’t dodge but they deal extra powerful blows even though their attacks are slow. Also the addition of stamina to the game changes things up as you can no longer endlessly dodge opponents or block every single attack without tiring. This is one of the most gorgeous game on the ios to date and looks far better than its predecessor and even more so if you are lucky enough to play on the latest ios device
